SASKO Stanger Bakery

SASKO Stanger Bakery’s success in changing for Good Some employees comments on how ‘MDW’ changed their lives:

  • We now feel part of the business.
  • Employees on the shop floor are now aware of the financial status of the company. Therefore, it is easier to make decisions in our lives, resting assured that our company is a growing, stable, financially secure and reliable one.
  • Being aware of the status of one’s company is one of the most important things for the workers.
  • We are now able to communicate with management more easily and this makes the employees more confident about themselves. It has made us realise that every employees input is vital to the company and does make a difference.
  • As a supervisor it has made my job easy due to the fact that people are working towards one direction and has positively changed their attitude towards their jobs.
  • There is more transparency in the company. Employees now have access to the information that was previously accessible to management only.
  • The MDW process has had a positive effect on the employees. Staff are aware of the performance of the unit ie. Profits, loaves sold and thus feel secure. We have a sound knowledge of our company’s performance. We therefore feel secure about our employment. There is no need to fear retrenchments. We have better working relationships with our fellow employees, making each one feel important in their own way.
  • Through teamwork this became a better place to work. We now have a better understanding of each other and communication lines are open.
  • As a Production Supervisor, I can say that the MDW process has helped reduce the pressure on me. Staff are more involved in decision making, problem solving and have become more responsible for the overall quality and efficiency of the bakery. Problems are identified and solved during our MDW meetings thus helping us maintain the standards required of us in bread production.
  • The MDW process helped create teamwork and unity amongst the team members thus enabling us to reach our targets and goals more easily.
  • The MDW process helped me realised my involvement and contribution as a team member and the difference I can make to the overall performance of the team. Helps me identify and solve problems within my scope of work.
  • The MDW process helped me to upgrade my skills on the shop floor. I have a clear understanding of how my contribution affects the performance of the whole team and how the team’s performance affects the entire company.
  • It gave us hope that the company is ‘here to stay’ and we also have an idea of the company’s financial status. This has motivated all the employees to do their best and this is a continuous progression. The work processes have been easier to comply with. The MDW daily meetings have enabled us to resolve problems thereby allowing us to give 100% performance towards our work. I can also say that I have grown as a leader in the MDW process. I now know what is expected of me as a Supervisor.

"Lean is a mind set. Lean is not a list of things to do and it's not a set of tools to use. Lean is a people-centred system committed to the continuous elimination of waste everywhere while adding value for customers. Change does not take place by edicts on the wall, but rather through everyday conversation. MDW leads that!"
