Seagoe Technologies recognised as leading the way in business

Seagoe Technologies Limited ( STL) primarily manufactures electric storage heaters that are sold in the UK & Republic of Ireland and in a number of export markets e.g. Spain, Portugal and Japan. STL occupy 85% of the world market for storage heaters and manufacture over 280,000 units per annum. STL was established in Northern Ireland in 1958 and was acquired by the Glen Dimplex Group in 1995.

STL has a dominant market position, which has been achieved through generic sales growth and acquisition. This growth has led to a proliferation of models and a high level of complexity in the company’s manufacturing operations. STL recognises that becoming a World Class, low unit cost operation would create a formidable barrier to entry to any would-be competitors.

A key aspect of company strategy is to continually improve processes in order to produce heaters more efficiently and cost effectively. Flexibility is key as complexity increases. STL ’s approach to improving performance is through streamlining process and information flow and through implementing a range of World Class Manufacturing Techniques. WCM techniques implemented in recent years include Kanban’s for steel supplies and finished (fabricated) parts, Mission Directed Work Teams, 5S and Total Productive Maintenance. Future WCM techniques currently being deployed are Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED) to improve the tool changeover process for Fabrication and Process Mapping to improve information flow.

The company are extremely proud of their recent performance in the Northern Ireland Quality Awards.

"Lean is a mind set. Lean is not a list of things to do and it's not a set of tools to use. Lean is a people-centred system committed to the continuous elimination of waste everywhere while adding value for customers. Change does not take place by edicts on the wall, but rather through everyday conversation. MDW leads that!"
